Fr. Mauro MANTOVANI, S.D.B.

Prof. Mantovani was born in Moncalieri (Turin) on 3 January 1966.

He has been part of the Salesians since 1986 and was ordained a priest on 10 September 1994. He obtained a Doctorate in Ecclesiastical and Civil Philosophy from the Pontifical University of Salamanca, and in Italy he studied philosophy and theology at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, at the Salesian Pontifical University (Rome and Turin) , and at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas “Angelicum”, where he obtained a doctorate in Theology.

Prof. Mantovani is the Rector of the Pontifical Salesian University and full professor of Theoretical Philosophy II (Philosophy of transcendent being) at the Faculty of Philosophy, of which he was first secretary (from 1997 to 2006) and then dean (from 2006 to 2012).

In 2009 he was appointed Vice Rector of the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS), and from 2012 to 2015 he was Dean of the Faculty of Social Communication Sciences. Since 2016, Prof. Mantovani has also been President of the Conference of Rectors of Roman Universities and Pontifical Institutions (CRUIPRO).

His main areas of research focus on Philosophical Theology, the Philosophy of History and on various topics on the borders between science, Philosophy and Theology, mainly on the history of Thomism and in particular on the authors of the second Spanish scholasticism.

Since 2006 he has managed the STOQ-UPS Project (Science, Theology and Ontological Research) and has been an ordinary academic at the Pontifical Academy of Saint Thomas Aquinas since February 2010.

He collaborates with the University Pastoral Office of the Vicariate of Rome on some activities of the “Paolo VI” Cultural Center of “Sant’Ivo alla Sapienza”, and is Vice President of SITA (International Society of Thomas Aquinas).
