Paolo BLASI

Member of the Supreme Council of the Bank of Italy, member of the Board of the United Nations University, and member of the French Comité National d’Evaluation (CNE).
 
He is a full Professor of Physics at the University of Florence and was Rector of the University of Florence from 1991 to 2000. President of the Italian Rectors’ Conference from 1994 to 1998. Member of the Board of the International Association of Universities from1995 to 2004 and member of the European Research Advisory Board from 2001 to 2004.
His scientific activity has focused on the properties of the atomic nucleus and reactions between nuclei.
 
He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters by New York University in 1997 and by the University of Arizona in 2003, the Sir Harold Acton Award by New York University in 2000 and the title Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur by the President of France in 2000.
